NorthGrove Sponsors Children’s Author Visit | Apr 26th
Thanks to NorthGrove, a master planned community located in Magnolia, TX, students, teachers and parents at Cedric C. Smith Elementary were treated to a meet and greet with well-known children’s book author, Jackie Mims Hopkins.
The Magnolia community, in partnership with NorthGrove developer Toll Brothers, sponsored the author’s April 26 visit where she read to pre-kindergarten through first-grade students during class. Later that evening, at the school’s Raising Readers Night, Hopkins treated parents and children to a book reading and a discussion of her work.
“Making sure our young residents receive a quality education is a priority here at NorthGrove,” said Jim Jenkins, Toll Brothers VP of Master Planned Communities. “We were very happy to offer the children at Smith Elementary an opportunity to meet Ms. Hopkins and learn more about the creative writing process. Perhaps the event will inspire those students to write their own books.”
The Texas native and former teacher has written ten books including the popular Shelf Elf series, Our Texas, and Goldie Socks and the Three Libearians. Her most recent publication, Prairie Chicken Little, was named to the 2016 Read Alouds Too-Good-to-Miss list by the Association of Indiana School Library Educators.
Toll Brothers purchased numerous copies of Hopkins’ most popular books, some of which were raffled off to students during the Raising Readers Night, while others were given to teachers for their classrooms.
Smith Elementary is part of the Magnolia Independent School District (ISD), and received more distinctions than any other elementary school in the district in 2016. The award-winning district is one of the fastest-growing districts in Texas. In addition to the elementary school, young NorthGrove residents attend Bear Branch Intermediate School, Bear Branch Junior High, and Magnolia High School.
NorthGrove is located off FM 2978 in Magnolia, in southern Montgomery County and only minutes from The Woodlands, Baker Hughes, ExxonMobil, and other employment centers. Magnolia ISD schools are also just around the corner. NorthGrove offers easy access to all the conveniences and necessities of modern living.
